Meet Nitika Trehan: Reiki Master Teacher

Today, TURA President Alvin interviews TURA member and Reiki Master Teacher Nitika Trehan. Nitika foray into Reiki, like many, began with a personal crisis.

Watch the interview or read the article to find out how she went from trainer to a reiki practitioner.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I am Nitika Trehan. I am a Reiki Master teacher. I am from India, born and brought up there. For the past 20 years, I have been moving and living in different parts of the world like Manchester, Switzerland, Singapore, India again, and now in Bangkok, Thailand.

I started my career as an insurance trainer, then moved into accounting operations, and later into teaching at an international school. All these moves and career changes brought a sense of discontent, along with a mid-life crisis. Things were not going that well, and then my friends, who were already Reiki Masters, advised me to try Reiki.

In 2021, I attended an online Reiki introductory workshop and experienced Reiki for the first time. I couldn’t believe the sensations I felt during the workshop—tingling, light, and a breeze. So, mainly out of curiosity to explore more about this healing energy, and also to heal myself or improve how I handle situations, I learnt Reiki.

What are the services you offer as part of your wellness practice?

As a Reiki Practitioner I keep Reiki pure and simple so its mainly Reiki energy healing sessions in person or at distance, group healing and teaching Reiki for self-healing and other all other levels.  Along with that I am also a guided meditation facilitator. Many a times I have seen energy healing along with guided meditation brings good results. As it helps them relax more, help them in setting up an intention for their own healing, giving affirmations to their own selves.

What inspired you to start offering these services?

After I did Reiki Level 1, I observed some shifts in myself. I was calmer and more balanced than before. Inside, I could feel a lot of peace—the feeling of restlessness and emptiness that I used to feel was gone.

Also, about 7 years ago, before I started practising Reiki, I had chronic pain in my right shoulder, which used to make my whole hand feel numb. Sometimes, there was a lot of pain, and the strength in this hand was decreasing. It was a chronic issue—every 2-3 months, I had to go for a couple of physiotherapy sessions, take muscle relaxants, strong painkillers, use heat pads, ice packs, and what not.

After learning Reiki, I started giving healing to the root cause of the pain and continued for 21 days. After 21 days, a bit of discomfort was still there but was more manageable than before. Later, after about 6 months, I realised that I had not taken any medicine or physiotherapy for that pain. My hand had regained its strength, and there was no numbness—nothing. Till date, I have not visited a physiotherapist or taken any medicine for that chronic pain.

So, there was healing and amazing benefit to my physical, mental, and emotional health. That’s the reason I want to create more awareness about these alternative healing modalities.

How do your services support someone on their healing or spiritual journey?

I often come across people who, due to this fast-paced life, are missing a connection not only with those around them but also with their own selves. When this inner connection is lost, it creates an imbalance that leads to discontent, anxiety, physical ailments, etc. Reiki energy healing often acts as a medium to help them reconnect with their inner self. It acts like an anchor that gently pulls them back to being grounded while also helping them stay balanced and connected to their authentic self.

I’ll give you an example. I had a client who was having a troubled relationship with her husband. She was an independent woman with a successful career, but in her personal life, she had a lot of issues with her husband. She always felt that her expectations didn’t match how her husband behaved. Due to this, she started having anxiety issues, began taking anti-anxiety pills, and felt physically weak. She stopped playing badminton with her friends, which she used to do regularly. Her social interactions also started reducing, and her work began to be affected.

I remember when she came for a couple of healing sessions—it helped her feel calmer and more peaceful. After that, she decided to learn Reiki for self-healing. She had amazing results: her anti-anxiety dosage started reducing, she felt more at peace, her physical strength improved, and with increased willpower, she pushed herself to play the sport she loved and also increased her social interactions.

Regarding her relationship with her husband, she felt that it was getting better. As she became more calm and balanced, she noticed that her husband’s behaviour seemed better toward her. So the expectations started aligning. If you look at it, her husband might have been behaving the same as before, but because she felt calmer and more balanced, the things that used to irritate her—things she used to blame on him—no longer affected her. She began accepting things as they were. This balanced approach helped improve her relationship, physical health, and work.

What can clients expect during a session with you?

Each healing session is unique in its own way, depending on the issue the client wishes to resolve. The primary objective of each session is to provide a calm, safe, and supportive space where the client’s well-being and healing are the priority. My role is to serve as a medium, connecting the client with Reiki healing energy, with the intention that they are able to release any burdens or blockages—whether physical or emotional—so they can begin to heal themselves for their highest good.

I begin by taking a few moments to connect with the client and understand their intentions or any areas of concern. With gentle, intuitive hand placements—either lightly on the body or just above—I guide the flow of Reiki energy to where it’s needed most, allowing the body and spirit to receive what they are ready for.

Each session unfolds uniquely.I also incorporate supportive modalities such as talk therapy, active listening, or guided meditation as needed. Each healing session becomes a gentle unfolding—a subtle energetic shift to support the client in their healing journey.

Is there a memorable client experience or transformation you'd like to share?

I will like to share an example of one of my client who was seeking healing after undergoing brain tumour surgery. She was an incredibly positive person—her acceptance and willingness to heal were truly inspiring. At the beginning of the session, as I was explaining how Reiki healing could support her, she simply said, “I trust the process and the Reiki energy. It will help me heal faster.”

After her surgery, she was advised not to take painkillers only SOS, but due to pain she was not able to sleep and she was advised to take sleeping pill. Despite the medication, she struggled to get restful sleep and feared becoming dependent on the pills.

After a few Reiki sessions, her pain significantly reduced, and she no longer needed painkiller or the sleeping pills. While she still experienced some discomfort, her sleep quality improved, and she began feeling more rested. For her, the desired result wasn’t just about reducing pain—it was about letting go of her dependence on the pills and being able to rest.

So what I'm trying to say is clients own openness and faith plays a role here.

Do you have a personal message or intention for those seeking healing or guidance?

My intention for any client who comes for a healing session or to learn Reiki from me is that the session or learning serves their highest good. Reiki will heal them and unfold the healing process that is for their highest good or what is best for them.

I have a personal message for all those who are seeking Reiki healing or are thinking of taking a session or learning Reiki: come with an open mindset, have faith in the process, and allow the healing to gently unfold and support you in a gentle way.

Many times, clients come for a session, and while they say it was relaxing, they may also say, “But my pain or that issue is still not resolved.” What I want to say is that Reiki is a gentle energy that works in subtle ways. So, please try Reiki healing patiently and allow the process to be gentle rather than expecting drastic changes.

This is true for many other healing modalities as well. A shift or change cannot be so sudden that it causes an identity crisis. Healing takes time, and the transformation unfolds at a pace that is right for you.

How does being a member of TURA benefit you?

As TURA is a registered association or society in Singapore, being a member adds credibility to your profile by showing that you are affiliated with a credible and recognised organisation.

Another benefit I’ve found in being a member is the ability to join events online. Earlier, you used to hold in-person Reiki teachers' meets, but now I can participate virtually. These events and gatherings, where different teachers and members share their experiences with clients or the different modalities they offer, provide a valuable learning opportunity. You gain so much from listening to others and learning from their experiences.

Another important aspect is that TURA provides a community—a society where many experienced teachers are available. You can ask questions, seek guidance, or connect with other healers whenever you need support.

I’m happy to be a part of this association and grateful for all the events and services they offer.
